definition, being sustainable means working through processes that can be

taken out of the equation. Help to preserve our resources, which are not
guaranteed to last forever without proper care, and opt to buy or grow organic.
And what about local? This can be a great way to adopt a seasonal diet, which
means that you eat only what is currently in season in your area. This cuts
down on harmful pollution that is involved with the transport of food from far
away places, and insures that your food is as fresh as it can be.

Diversify Your Diet!
When food is grown with proper organic guidelines in mind,
farmers spread their seeds far and wide, to be metaphorical. What does this
mean? Crops are selected carefully and continuously rotated in order to care
for the quality of the soil, which benefits human health in turn.

Fiber Up and Get Your Grain On
Avoiding refined foods and opting instead for whole grains,
nuts and seeds can be an awesome addition to any diet. With whole foods and
fibrous materials, nutrition that is consumed tends to be more complete than
heavily processed and refined foods. Brown rice over white. Fresh potatoes or
yams over packaged versions from the grocery. Raw cashews and almonds over
roasted and salted. Make smarter choices with little things that may already be
present in your diet.

Get Away From the Processed Foods!
Avoiding processed food is another step on the way towards a
greener, healthier diet and lifestyle. This means, avoid the processed
additives that can be found in so many packaged and processed foods and snacks.
Much of this is sodium, which is used as a preservative, or sugar, which is
present in so much processed food. Dies, flavors and salts, none of which do
anything good for our health, can all be avoided when you put down the
processed foods in the market.

Think Twice Before Buying Heavily Packaged Food
When it comes to the health of the environment, it’s
important to think hard about how much waste we produce, and what can be
eliminated from the garbage can or the landfill when you make the choice for
whole foods, bulk foods, using your own containers, re-using bags and
Tupperware, or buying fresh from the local farmer’s market. When you consider
the chemicals and dyes used in packaging, and the plastic and paper that can be
avoided, you can quickly see why non-packaged food is the way to go.
